Combining multiple pdfs into one pdf when one of the pdfs is password protected?

I have a client who needs multiple pdfs combined into one pdf, but one of the original pdfs is password protected. I have the password, but when I attempt to combine the files the password isn't accepted. I can open the password protected file, but when I try to combine the files, it doesn't work. Any solution or recommendations?

So, again, I have four separate pdfs, trying to combine them into one report file (pdf), but one of the original pdfs is password protected — I do have access to the password and am able to open the file (when I'm not combining the files).

MAC OS X

Thanks for any help!

File > Properties, Security tab to show the security options.

Set security method to None. Enter the control password as requested.

SAVE THE FILE and close it.

Now you can combine the files.

If your password is rejected you have only the open password, not the control password.

Take the security off before you start.

Thanks but how, specifically is that accomplished? I tried to go into the security settings and make changes but was not successful.

Thanks — tried this, it seems that we have the open password, not the control password (it's a medical record summary). Will reach out to the source to see if this can be changed. Unsure that it would be changed because of legal implications (ability to edit the document, etc). but will check on that.

Followup question: I have placed the four pdfs in a portfolio, and attempting to place bookmarks in the summary pdf (the first pdf of hte portfolio [1 of 4], linking to other pages or portions of pages within the other pdfs in the portfolio — is this doable?

I haven't tried it but maybe you can use Go To View links. The trick with these is to have both/all PDF files open and visible. If working with tabs, drag the tabs out to make separate windows. It isn't obvious that you can move to another PDF and click Set Link but for ordinary links and files you certainly can.
