copy and paste text from Acrobat (any file) to another application (Word, Mail) produces italics

Engaged ,
Nov 15, 2021 Nov 15, 2021

When I copy and paste text from Acrobat (any file) to word, it comes out in Italics. Is there a reason? I want Roman characters (no itals).

Is there a setting in Acrobat that controls this output?

Not an issue using Preview or PDF Expert. So there is clearly a setting in Acrobat that is causing this.

(Never used to.)

Using lateest Acrobat DC Pro and latest Monterey. tx

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.

As per your information above, we did try to replicate the behaviour at our end. However, it does not paste the text in Italics in Word file.

Would you mind sharing the Acrobat and MS Word version numbers?

It would be helpful if you can share a small video of the issue occurring at your end.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Try pasting the text as unformatted, using Ctrl+Shift+V.

just saw your post.  Is that a mac command? I find that command-control-V brings up a menu option (formatted/unformatted) called Paste Special; but that takes more steps than selecting and de-italicizing pasted text. It also works only in Word, but not in (say) apple mail.

My real question is why this behavior is occurring. It never used to do this. And because it occurs outside of Word, it has to be something going on in this Acrobat on this machine (not happening on an intel iMac running the same versions of OS and Acrobat) Is there a way to trouble shoot this? tx

Paste the text into a plain-text editor first, which will strip any formatting settings, then copy it from there and paste into Word.

That's a pis aller. There are any number of ways to fix this problem after the fact, but it remains a bug and does not exist on pre-M1 machines. Adobe should address it.

Hi @Angelica27929178vnyz

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check. If the file is stored on a shared network/drive please download it to your computer locally and then try again.

What is the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.3.20310  installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

Regards

Amal

All files. All applications (pasting). I have no interest in testing this by resetting my prefs, since I don't want to lose them. If this is a known issue, there ought to be a fix on your end. While you're at it, why doesn't control-G advance the search to the next result? this has been widely reported on this site. Very annoying.

Hi @JIPNET

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the delayed response.

I have tried to reproduce the issue in-house and its working fine.

Would you mind sharing a small video recording of the issue and collecting the Adobe CC logs https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html and share them via any cloud storage? Just upoad the logs file to the cloud and generate the link and share the link with us for further investigation.

Also, make sure you have the application updated to the recent version 22.3.20310. Go to Help . Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Regards

Amal

Hi,

I hope it is okay that I join the discussion. I have the same issue and it is a huge inconvenience as I copy-paste from Acrobat many times a day.

Info that might be useful:

Architecture: arm64

Processor: Apple M1 Pro

Build: 22.3.20314.0

AGM: 7.0.2

CoolType: 8.1.1

JP2K: 4.0.0.52132

MacOS Ventura 13.1

I attach a video of what happens when I copy to word and powerpoint. The same goes for Outlook, Excel, Notes and TextEdit, by the way, so the problem seems consistent. I hope this can help.

Looking forward to a solution. Thanks.

same here. All the text of any kind of pdf file, once pasted, will turn into italicized ones. Never met any issue like this when using Zotero or preview. This problem costs me a lot more time when trying to take notes for my readings.

You may also download the patch manually from the link https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

Let us know how it works.

Correction: It does NOT work!

It keeps pasting in italics. I rushed into my happiness. I must have been half-asleep when I tested it because I tried many times since then, and it always pasted in italics.

Sorry for the confusion and, any other suggestions to fix the issue, please?

thanks!

Thanks but the problem remains, unfortunately. I have updated and rebooted but still get italics.

I hope another solution is coming soon.
