Could not find player for the audio (comments)

Hello,
2 years ago, I recorded audio comments in pdf files, with acrobat reader. Now, reopening the files, Acrobat Reader doesn't play the audio and if I click sound icon, it says "Could not find player for the audio". In settings I found that the player is QuickTime or flash and both don't work. How can I solve this problem? If not possible is there a way to recover these audios?
thank you very much,
Francesco

Hi FrancescoGsp
We are sorry for the trouble. As described you are not able to play the Audio files in PDF file via Acrobat Reader.
What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader you are using? To check the version of the application please use the link (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html)
Make sure you have the latest version 20.006.20042 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates.
When audio is embedded into a PDF with Adobe Reader/Acrobat you need to have Flash Player installed in order to listen to it, and this Flash Player is not the same used by the Web Browsers. Please try to install the appropriate Flash Player and check.
Are you on Mac OS, if yes, you can download and install Flash Player to play multimedia content embedded in a PDF from the link here: http://www.adobe.com/go/acrobat_flashdownload_installer_mac
For Windows, please use the link (https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/npapi/)
For more information please refer to the help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/using/flash-player-needed-acrobat-reader.html)
Let us know how it goes.
Regards
Amal

Hello,
I've got a similar problem. I also want to play audio comments in a file that has been sent me. It worked a month ago, but now the same file makes no sound when I click on the icon. None of the three players in settings work and I also downloaded the flashplayer from the latest reply. For me there is no error message or so, just silence.
Can someone please help me?
Kind regards
Dominique

Hi,
I submitted a paper for school and my teacher made it into an adobe PDF and then wrote comments on it and left a sound file. I open it up with Adobe Acrobat DC Reader and keep double clicking the sound file but it keeps saying "Cannot find an appropriate player for the sound." I am not sure why this is and I don't know what else to do. Please let me know how I can play the sound file.

Hello,
I have the same problem, and I tried all the possibilities mentioned below. Still doesn't work.
Is it really no solution for playing audio files on Mac? The problem is pretty old.

Hello,
I have the same problem and the version you mentionned. No matter what I try, I can't get sound clips to play. This is quite frustrating, since I've purchased a linguistics essay enhanced with sounds. Without being fluent in I.P.A., this feature was perfect for me, but it's useless in the current context.

Dear Amal,
I was already up-to-date on my version, so it doesn't work for me. I did, however, test the file on a windows computer with the same up-to-date software and it worked flawlessly.
Can I expect a hotfix for this in the future?

I have experienced the same situation with my MacBook Pro 2018. My law professor sends me comments via the same mechanism as you describe. I tried all suggestions as above and none worked.
I resorted to downloading an app on my iphone called iannotate (9.95 USD). I download the file and then Airdrop the file to the app on my phone and voila, I can hear the comments of my professor!! I know it's a hack and an expense but it works!
Here's hoping Adobe will fix this somehow.

Hello Racchel,
Thanks for the suggestion! This doesn't absolve adobe from the problem, but it's a nice fix. Maybe a free app offers the same, I'll do some digging.

Dear Amal,
unfortunately I´ve faced the same problem.
Before I switched off Protected Mode at Startup und disabled "Enable Enhanced Security" I couldn´t start recording at all, because adobe reader couldn´t find my microphone. Now, after that problem is solved, I am trying to solve the next one.
After creating an audio comment im PDF I can succesfully play it in audio-recorder. After I close the recorder and try to play it by double clicking or clicking the right button and clicking on play audio - nothing happens.
I´ve closed the file and tryed to play audio again, installed flash player (under your link) and adobe reader itself for a few times already, and rebooted my PC. I´ve tried to update aobe reader. Nothing worked!
I´ve also tried to play my voice comments under Android or with google docs or with any of my browsers as well - but the sign of microphone (for the voice comment) was not interactive and I could do nothing with it.
I face this problem in any adobe reader file I create.
System: Windows 10, Adobe reader: 20.012.20041, Teh Adobe flash player under your link.
Protected Mode at Startup is disablerd, "Enable Enhanced Security" is disabled, Media Player - Adobe Flash Player, "Change permission for selected multimedia player to" tried "prompt" and "always" without success. However I can succesfully add an mp4 to adobe reader and play it by double clicking (it opens in groove-music player).
File sample: https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:4cc3ded7-7aab-49a6-be2e-1fa22646532f...
The problems seems to remain unsolved for a pretty long time. I hope Adobe will pay some attention to us - the poor users.
Regards

I am having the same problems. Right now i am making recordings seperately and inserting them into pdf's. This is more work however and defeats the purpose of this feature. Any solutions?
