create editable pdf from illustrator?

Community Beginner ,

Hi, I am new to Acrobat and editable PDFs so sorry if this is a total beginner question and approach to obtaining assistance. We are trying to use a layout we have created in Illustrator and make certain areas of this page "editable" for others to edit - check boxes and text fields/dates, mostly. Would someone know if there is a way to do such a thing? I hope this is not too vague, and thanks for any help!

Check boxes and date entry fields can be created using the form field tool in Acrobat.

is there a way to create a field within a page in illustrator that would become an editable field or checkbox when made into a pdf?

Is Acrobat the only tool that you can create editable pdfs with? I'm creating a form that is to be sent out, completed and returned by email.

What software do I need to do this? Thanks

Acrobat is the only method I know of. However, there is a problem with returning the filed out form by email.

1. Email is not secure. Personal information should never be returned by email.

2. When returning the information contain in fields by email, the default setting is to return an fdf or xfdf file. This just contains the information, not the pdf file itself. This is usually adequate since the file can have its information either imported into a blank for or otherwise collected into a useful information.

3. Users of Reader cannot save form files with the data intact. There is a work around of enabling extended reader rights, but this is limited to 500 users/uses.

The best way to handle pdf forms is to have the file hosted on a website and have the information processed on the site where the information can be kept confidential.
