Crop Pages in field-form document -went through the paces, but the page did not crop

I went through the steps to crop a page in Adobe Acrobat Pro (Win10 with all but the very most recent Adobe update), but the crop does not take effect. 

I did the following: ALL TOOLS - EDIT A PDF - CROP PAGE  under Modify Page - I created a rectangle over the lowest 3" of the page (to convert it from legal to letter) - Double-clicked inside the rectangle - Change Page Size to the fixed size of letter - Checked Page Range All (and also tried just cropping one only) - finalized with OK.

This was as per the tutorial I reviewed.

Nothing happens when I do this. I realize that the literal file size of kb/mg should not change.

But my idea is to have the user experience this as a letter-sized document since the lowest three inches of each page are blank.

I finally worked it out. I hope this is helpful to someone else:

ALL TOOLS

EDIT A PDF

CROP PAGE

Under Modify Page - Create a rectangle over the current whole page (to go from legal to letter)

Double-click inside the rectangle. A screen of choices appear.

Under page boxes select:   Show all boxes>,  Inches>, and Cropbox>.

Top, Left, and right should each be 0

Bottom should be 3, to take off the bottom 3 inches.

Select desired page range.

Finalize with OK.

Click the SAVE icon in the upper right of the screen.

Thank you for your time and effort in showing me the steps.

The problem was that I chose "change page size" to change page size from legal to letter. (It seemed logical!) 

But I see now that I need to leave that field alone and select "Page Boxes" and select CropBox. Whew!

Also, a good point is that in Adobe crop, you are selecting what to retain, not what to take away.

Copping indeed hides the cropped content. 

Could you post a screenshot (or a series of screenshots) to see what you are doing?

I published the steps with screenshots as per your request. In my initial description of the steps, I made an error. Here is the corrected list of steps that I think should work (as per the new ADOBE tutorial on their website!) but do not work for me on more than one document.

One additional note:

Cropping in Acrobat hides information and is not permanent. For example, if you draw another crop rectangle and double-click inside, you can uncrop. 

To make it permanent, you need to remove the hidden information:

• Save first to save current document
• Redact tool 
• Choose Sanitize Document from Redact toolbar
• Choose to remove hidden information 
• click OK 
• Save As to give new name and preserve original

Don't choose Remove All unless you are sure.
