Custom Tool - Keep Tool Selected for Text Boxes

So, when creating a custom tool, there is an option to include the Keep Tool Selected tool, but it only applies to Commenting tools like the Rectangle tool. Is there a way to include the Keep Tool Selected tool, but have it apply to things like Text Box and Check Box tools?
