Diagonal measurements using the measurement tool

I am trying to do a diagonal measurements on some constructions plans. I was able to do it before but now I can only measure horizontal and verticle. Did I goof on a preference somehow? TIA

Go into your Preferences, the 2D Measuring section, and turn OFF Orthographic Lines.  This allowed me to break away from the horizontal/vertical locking.
