Disabling defaults for "Enable scrolling" and Pan tool

New Here ,
Apr 17, 2024 Apr 17, 2024

I'm looking for a way to change the two default settings in Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 2024.002.20687). First, is there a way to set it to default to the Select tool instead of the Pan tool? I truly have never once used Pan, only Select, and it drives me *crazy* that I have to switch it over manually every time. I did at least turn on "Always display the keyboard selection cursor" under the Accessiblity options, but I'd rather just have it always be the Select tool in the first place.

Second, I have Single Page as my default as page layout. Adobe, by default, turns on "Enable scrolling for all view types" for every document. I really hate this too. I like to flip through pages much faster than scrolling. Is there a way to remove this as the default?

Thank you so much for any help.

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well.

What is the version of the OS you are using?

As you have the latest version of the application, please try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Also, try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://adobe.ly/4bkE6Qh

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC https://adobe.ly/4aSjFdF and try using the application there and check.

Let us know how it goes.

I was having the same problem, but think I fixed it - hope it works for you too. Following directions as previously instructed it was still scrolling. Then I noticed a "Custom resolution" radio button - for me it was set at 110 pixels/inch. I changed that radio button to "Use system setting: 96 pixels/inch" and now the scrolling nightmare seems to be over. Good luck!

Thanks. That fixed the default view/enable scrolling issue, but the Pan default issue remains.

I'm using Windows 11 Pro.

Hi @Brittany24959474ipje ,

We are glad to hear that. To make the select tool as default, Please uncheck the box for "Make hand tool read articles" under Edit menu>Preferences> General. Click OK to save settings and relaunch the application and see if that works.

to disable scrolling - in the setting - preferences - page display - default layout and zoom -  choose page layout: single page.

It will disable scrolling by default. in Zoom choose fit page.
