Embedding or Removing Fonts in PDF Form Documents

I am trying to prepare and submit a prepared fillable PDF form from the US Patent and Trademark Office ("USPTO").  I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 2024.003.20112.  I downloaded the form (AIA/82A) from the USPTO, filled in the required fields, had the client sign the form, and "printed" the completed form using the Adobe PDF printer driver.  When attempting to upload the form to the USPTO, received the following warning "The attached PDF file references a non-embedded font: ArialMT.  Please remove file, embed the font and reattach."  I received the same warning for the "TimesNewRomanPSMT" font.

When I go to the document properties in Adobe Pro there are multiple versions of the ArialMT font - two being an "embedded subset" and one not embedded per the attached image. For TimesNewRomanPSMT there is only one not embedded version per the attached image.  I have tried different things to try to embed or remove those fonts without success.  In the Properties for the Adobe PDF printer driver, I cannot find an option to manually embed the fonts.  The closest thing I found was the check box for "Rely on system fonts only; do not use documen fonts", which I tried both checked and unchecked - without success. I've also attached a screen shot of the printer properties.

I am at my wits end for getting around this problem.  Thank you.

Hi @michael_4807 ,

Thank you for reporting the issue and apologies for inconvenience caused. To resolve the font embedding issue in your PDF , you also try the Acrobat Preflight feature . There are several fixups available in Preflight for fixing the font related issues like Embed fonts , List potential font problems , Embed missing fonts ,Fix font encoding.

To use Preflight :

  1. Goto All Tools --> Use Print Production --> Preflight
  2. When Preflight dialog opens , select the blue wrench icon (highlighted in between in image below).
  3. Search for Font (This will filter fixups with font)
  4. Select the required fixup and click on Fixup ("Analyze and fix" in case if you are running a profile and not a fixup)
  5. Rename the document and save.

Can you try with Embed Font or Embed Missing Fonts fixups on your file.  Let me know if this works for you.
