Error 57 Reading PDF'S with Acrobat Reader

New Here ,
Mar 22, 2022 Mar 22, 2022

I am having a problem opening PDF's using Adobe Acrobat DC. It opens some, but others give an error "There was an erroror opening this document. There was a problem reading this document (57).". I have to save any PDF attachments sent to me on email & then open them using Microsoft Edge which is a major inconvenience. The same PDF's open fine on other PC's in my office. Any suggestions please? Thanks Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

What is the workflow/steps you are doing to open the PDF files? Please try to download the PDFs to your computer locally and then try to open them and check.

Also as described the PDFs open fine on another computer, please try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check.

Also, make sure you have the recent version of Acrobat 22.1.20085 installed go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Regards

Amal

Hi Amal,

Thanks for your email.

What is the workflow/steps you are doing to open the PDF files? Please try to download the PDFs to your computer locally and then try to open them and check.

  • I double click on the PDF’s. Some open, others give error 57

Also as described the PDFs open fine on another computer, please try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check.

  • I have setup a new profile on a different PC & they open fine. I setup a new profile on my PC & the result is still the same.

Also, make sure you have the recent version of Acrobat 22.1.20085 installed go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

  • I have the latest version.
  •

Thanks

Daniel

Hi Daniel

Hope you are doing well and am sorry for the delay.

Would you mind sharing a small video recording of the issue for a better understanding, also share the PDF file in question so that we can check it at our end https://helpx.adobe.com/document-cloud/help/sharing-pdfs.html

Regards

Amal

Thanks Amal,

I deleted "Adobe Acrobat DC" Free version & re-installed it but the problem still persisted. I deleted it again but installed Adopbe Acrobat DC Pro version & strangely that solved the problem. Only issue I have is that I now have to pay for Adobe, insted of being able to use the Free Version. Thanks Daniel
