Error Message and wouldn't allow Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or Adobe Acrobat Pro Reader to Download

Tried everything. But this error message wouldn't go away, and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or Adobe Acrobat Pro Reader can't be downloaded on Windows 10. I tried disabling the anti-virus, it had nothing to do with that. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, it didn't work. Please show me know how to troubleshoot this?

Hi @Jeff29898000paz1

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the troubled experience.
First, if this office machine (IT-managed), you should reach out to your IT helpdesk.

It seems you are already aware that: Error 1406 in Acrobat installation typically means that the installer can’t write a specific registry key due to insufficient permissions. Here’s how we can try troubleshooting and resolving this:

Fixing Acrobat Installation Error 1406

1. Run the Installer as Administrator

  • Right-click the Acrobat installer (.exe) file.

  • Select “Run as administrator.”

  • This gives the installer elevated privileges to write necessary registry entries.

2. Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Security Software

  • Some antivirus programs may block registry changes.

  • Temporarily disable your antivirus and try installing again.

3. Manually Fix Permissions

If the error message points to a specific registry key (e.g., HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes...):

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to the problematic registry key mentioned in the error.
  3. Right-click the key > Permissions.
  4. Select Administrators and ensure Full Control is checked.
  5. Click OK and retry the installation.

4. Use the Acrobat Cleaner Tool

If the issue persists, clean out previous installs.

Let us know how it works.

I tried 1) and 2) and it doesn't work. 4)'s link no longer works when clicked on. I also tried calling Adobe Customer Support- the IT couldn't figure it out either.
