F2 key not renaming

New Here ,
May 14, 2020 May 14, 2020

My Acrobat just updated - and I am no longer able to use the F2 keyboard shortcut to rename fields - instead, the "Adobe User Guide" opens up in my web browser (same thing that happens when I hit the F1 key). Is there any way to fix this?

No, I was on the phone with Adobe support and it seems like this is a feature. You can use Ctrl + F2 to rename fields, however.

It seems odd that they changed something so basic. Ctrl + F2 it is.

If anyone else hates this as much as I do, an Acrobat rep gave me this website to suggest this as a change/fix: https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac so I made an entry. You can vote for it or make your own entry, I think.

Hi there

We are sorry for the trouble and the experience.

Have you started experiencing this behavior after installing the new version 20.009.20063? To check the version of the application go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC

With this new version, we have released a new feature called contextual help content. Acrobat now provides contextual help that allows single-click access to the help content in the context of the tool or feature you’re using. For example, If you are using the Edit tool, clicking the Help menu, or help (?) icon, or pressing the F1 key takes you to the Edit PDF help page.

You may please use Ctrl-F2 for the renaming function.

Regards

Amal

Hello,

I would suggest to use Ctrl+F1 for this special function related to standard F1-function. F2 ist a real standard in the whole system for renaming. Please restore the default behaviour.

Regards
Francesco

Thanks for reporting the issue to us. We are working on this and will soon try to revert to the original renaming functionality of F2.

This is fantastic to hear - thank you so much! Really look forward to reverting to the original functionality of F2. Will this be done concurrent with the next version to be released?

Adobe, the Help menu also shows F2 as the keyboard shortcut for "Help", not editing. Please correct that, as well.

Changed functionality of F2 keyboard shortcut.Changed functionality of F2 keyboard shortcut.

And checking Acrobat's online list of keyboard shortcuts, it lists the usual F1 as the key to use to access Help, not F2 ... so KEEP that the same and revert back to the old functions of F2. https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/keyboard-shortcuts.html

Lessons Learned:

  • Adobe has several inconsistencies across the board on this issue. F1 is the key for Help in the website reference guide, but F2 is listed as the key in the program's Help menu.
  • With the current May 12th release, both the F1 and F2 keys do the same things, which is confusing and definitely not needed.
  • Don't change the keyboard shortcuts. Power users and those using assistive technologies depend upon them. Adobe, you've learned this lesson many times over the decades of producing software.
