Font Is Installed; Acrobat Can't Find It

Adobe Acrobat X Pro

I've received a .pdf file from a client of mine for editing.

The .pdf file has all of its text written in "Futura-Medium".

After finding a copy of the font, I tried to install it.

It said that the font is already installed.

I assume the file to be "Futura Medium Oblique".

Due to Windows 7's grouping, it is placed under the Futura Family.

When I try to make a change to the text in the .pdf file, I get the error:

All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font.

However, only "Futura" appears in Font Properties when I try to change the text object.

Why can't Acrobat pick up on my version of "Futura-Medium" and how can I fix this?

The error "All or part of the selection has no available system font..." occurs when the PDF file was not created on the machine on which it is being displayed. If the fonts in a PDF file aren't available on the computer, or they are different versions, it's likely that you can't edit text in the PDF. Changing the text to a font available on the system allows you to edit it the text in the PDF document. Please try the steps as below:

Choose Tools > Content > Edit Document Text
Select the text that you want to edit with this tool and right-click (Windows), and then choose Properties.
In the TouchUp Properties dialog box, select the Text tab.
In the Font pop-up menu, select a Font consistent with the current font you are using. (The fonts listed are the fonts that are available on your system.) You can choose to embed the font into the document by checking the Embed checkbox. Or, you can choose a subset of only the characters you want to add by checking the Subset checkbox (which keeps the file smaller).

You have to be very careful on assumptions about fonts. Sometimes they even have the same name and are different. In your case it sounds like you found something similar, but that is not equivalent. You need to find the exact same font to be able to edit it, or the creator has to embed the entire font in the PDF (at least I think this latter works, not sure). A similar name is not enough.
