I recently went to add a (many times) previously used text watermark and the font is SYMBOL - that is my only choice. I have uninstalled Acrobat DC and reinstalled twice today and still my only choice of font is SYMBOL.

Strangely, rebooting my Mac and opening Acrobat gave me my fonts back.

I'm having the same problem. Yesterday 8/15 it was fine. Today, it's SYMBOL or nothing.

Rebooting my Mac didn't solve this problem for me. Neither did uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat. Any other suggestions on how to get a font other than symbols as an option in watermarks?

Rebooting my Mac worked for me 🙂

This is obviously a bug in the system. I'm having the same problem with a watermark I've used and saved as an Action Wizard thousands of times. Now the only font available in the watermark dialog window is Symbol. When the window first opens after launch, I see the "loading fonts" progress bar briefly but no joy.

This is still a major issue and I'm not going to restart my mac every time I run into this problem.

Hello!
I hope you are doing well, and we apologise for the delayed response and the trouble.
Could you please provide more details about the issue, as your question appears in an old community thread? Are you experiencing the same error message mentioned in that thread? Additionally, could you outline the complete workflow you follow to apply the watermark? If possible, a screen recording would be very helpful.
Are you on a Mac or Windows machine, and what is the version? Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20474 (Win) | 25.001.20476 (Mac), Apr 28, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine.
When Acrobat’s watermark dialog shows only “Symbol” in the font list, it usually means Acrobat can’t see your system fonts (or its font‐cache/preferences are corrupted).
Verify that other fonts are available
Use the Add Text tool (Comment → Add Text Comment) and check the font dropdown.
If you see only Symbol there too, Acrobat can’t load any TrueType/OpenType fonts.
Clear Acrobat’s font cache & prefs
Close Acrobat.
Rename or delete these folders (they’ll rebuild):
Clear Windows font cache
Open an elevated Command Prompt and run:
Check your system fonts
In Settings → Personalization → Fonts, ensure you have valid fonts installed (e.g. Arial, Times New Roman).
If you recently installed custom fonts, uninstall/reinstall them one family at a time.
After clearing caches and repairing, Acrobat’s watermark font list should populate normally. If it still only shows “Symbol,” it indicates a deeper permissions issue. Please provide the current version of the installed operating system as well as the version of Acrobat. Additionally, collect the logs from the machine and share them with us. To do this, download the Log Collector tool, run it, and make sure all log options are selected. Then, reproduce the issue you are experiencing and close the Log Collector tool. This will generate the logs and a log ID. Please share these with us for further investigation.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.
