Font thickness different in web browser vs. in Acrobat

I have found that the same pdf document shows a thicker font in my Chrome web browser vs. in Acrobat. Here's an example:

What might be the cause of this discrepancy? Can I adjust some options in Acrobat to reproduce the Chrome font?

Try the Smooth Text option under Edit - Preferences - Page Display.
