form calculations don't work, calculation boxes grey'd out

Community Beginner ,

I'm new to creating forms, but have a pretty weird issue.  I cant add basic calculations to my form.  I am trying to sum multiple other form fields and am able to select them with the checkbox, but nothing shows in the calculation box after I've selected them.  I've tried re-creating the form with no luck. The link below is the file in question.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Buddstud,

Thank you for sharing the form.

Are you trying to sum couple of form fields and get the Total? I downloaded the form, but didn't really get the field you are referring here. Would you please tell me the exact form field you are trying to sum and which one is the resultant filed?

I checked the field's properties too. Few fields like "Our Premium" are on Read-only. So you may double if the field you are trying to add aren't restricted.

Here is a video tutorial for the same: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-do-i-use-basic-calculations-in-a-form

Need more information to proceed further.

Thanks,

Akanchha

@Akki_24 Thanks for getting back to me.  I tried unlocking that field and still have the issue.

Im trying to make "TOTAL_FEE_TRANSFER" the calculation field.  It would equal the sum of the following fields:

"OUR_PREMIUM"

"OUR_UCC_PREMIUM"

"ESCROW_FEE"

"CPL_FEE"

"FEDEX_FEE"

"SEARCH EXAM FEE" (realized i messed up my naming structure on this one, my bad)

"RECD_FEE"

"TRANSFER_TAX"

"TIEFF"

"MISC_CHARGE_AMT_I"

"MISC_CHARGE_AMT_II"

"MISC_AMT_I"

"MISC_AMT_II"

I'm able to check the fields, but once i select and press "OK"...

The values do not show in the box, and does not calculate on the form.

Thank you again for your help!

This form does not contain a calculation in the "TOTAL_FEE_TRANSFER" field.

I added one and it worked fine.

It look like Acrobat is not taking your selections for the calculation. Try just selecting one input field for the calc and see what happens.

Thanks for answering Thom.  The calculation is what im trying to accomplish.  I tried just selecting only one input field with no field showing in the greyed calcluation box.

I also tried creating a brand new form from scratch and still have the same issue.

Since it worked for you, could it be a problem with my acrobat program? Im running Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on a windows 10 machine.  Im guessing its not a document type issue, as its a standard Adobe Acrobat Document.  I ran repair on the program in windows 10 control panel and it did not fix the issue either.

Again, thank you for your help.  Im at a real loss on this one.

Try the simplified field notation.

I've have problems in the past with Acrobat spontaneously deleting calculation scripts. There's something funny about this particular dialog, but I've never seen it just not select fields. It's not worth fighting Acrobat over this.

If what you are doing  isn't working, try something else. Personally I'd just go straight to JavaScript, but Bernd's suggestion is much simpler. Try the Simplified field notation and see if it has the same problem.

It looks like simplified field notation suffers the same issues.  I can select the simplified field notation button and click edit....

Then I can type into the javascript editor...

But once i click OK, nothing shows on the text property fields and moves the radio button to value is not calculated.

Very irritating issue.  Thank you for all your help.

Try entering the values without quotes.

Here's an article on calculations. It has a link to a sample file. Try editing the sample. See Acrobat gives you the same problem.

Tried entering without quotes and tried on your sample file with no luck on either Value is, simple field notations, or custom calculation script.

I am sure its an issue with my adobe acrobat install.  I've reached out to my IT to reinstall and/or possibly clear my Appdata.

I may just buy a month subscription on my personal comp to get it working if all else fails.  I've scoured the forums for any fix or setting change, but I have come up empty-handed.

Thank you for all your help with this issue.  I really appreciate it and will definitely reference your article on for a custom calculations script I have in mind!!!!!

I have to say I'm at a loss as well. Especially since the coworker's computer is doing the same thing. It may be the general setup you have there. Acrobat has some weird issues.

Try the example for the article I posted above and see what it does, but other than than all you can do is complain to Adobe support.

I finally found the issue after trying just about everything.  I was not able to add calculations to fields I created using the Adobe Form Wizard.  When I created a new field from scratch, I was able to add value is calculations, simple notation calculations, and custom calculation script, and all of them stay in the file when pressing OK.

I hope this saves someone else a lot of time if they ever come across this issue!

I encountered the same problem.  Fixed this by changing the settings in Edit > Preferences > JavaScript.  Enabled the deugger and menu item execution privileges and restarted my computer.  I have the ability to save calculations now.

That's pretty odd since neither of those settings have anyting to do with entering, saving, or using calculation scripts.  I think restarting the computer was more likely to have fixed the issue.
