Dear User,
We are delighted to inform you that we have extended support for opening multiple PDF files in separate windows (SDI - Single Document Interface Mode) in the latest updates of Acrobat.
To use this preference, simply go to Preferences > General > Open documents as new tabs in the same window and disable this. Relaunch Acrobat and open the documents, they will open in individual window instances (reference image attached for navigation to the preference)

The actual process is as follows
Open one PDF document
Go to top left of screen click on edit
Then click on preferences at the bottom of the edit list
Under categories (top left) click on General
Under basic tools on the right side of the screen unclick the following
Unclick 'Open documents as new tabs in the same window (requires relaunch)
Once unclicked scroll to the bottom of page and click OK
Close PDF document and then re open PDF documents, you can now drag PDF's to separate screens
Hope this helps

Preferences aren't under the Edit menu in my version. They are under the Menu button in the top left corner. There is no option for "Open documents as new tabs in the same window." Only "Open cross-document links in the same window." I am using version 23.6.20320.0. Is there a tab fix for this version?

I'm having the same problem.
I'm running Acrobat Pro DC 2015 and both PDF files opened are on the same window.
I have to open a new window for each file and then close the originally opened for having only a file per window.
Is there a preference to change that would allow to open files in separated windows??
Regards.

I don't know what that means. My Adobe looks like the screen shot above my first reply. Preferences>General>Basic Tools does not have the line item: "Open documents as new tabs in the same window"
