Just installed latest Adobe Acrobat Reader, 6/08/24, there is NO "Initial View" tab.

Correct. You need Acrobat for that, not the free Reader.

Same here... Adobe is getting more complicated and less user friendly every time there is an update...

When the opening a PDF file and it's secure that option won't be available. So the solution people are posting isn't working for me either. I work with a team which everyone is annoyed by the bookmark panel always opening because we don't need it. We look at more than 100 of documents a day which non of them require us to look at the bookmark. Our PDF file is secured by our employer for different reasons. I've been reading on how to close, hide, turn off the bookmark tab futur documents that's always opening but no option is done for us and believe me the users NEED THIS. You have no clue how frustrating this is! Just to be more precise the document we are opening has about 20 to 30 pages so option of remembering in preferences what the -document -open setting(-restore last view settings when reopening documents) check box is not an option that works for us because we need every document to open on the First page and this remembers what EVER page you close or left the futur document will open that page. User wants max screen page without all the panels right or left to be opened when all we want to see is the document information. I work with Acrobat reader and Acrobat Pro and both have the same issue of not having the bookmark panel hidden when opening futur documents.

Is it possible to open pdf documents stored on hard drive in Read mode (Ctrl+H) by default? That would turn off all panes at once.
I need to review a lot of pdf documents and having to press Ctrl+H every time I open a pdf document is just annoying. There should be a way to set this for all pdf documents by default at once.
Thanks for help.

None of this works. The only reason the PDFs are opening up without the bookmarks is because you've already saved them without the bookmarks. Jane is correct above.

Looks like a registry hack might work. Good luck with that, as Obama said to Lin-Manuel Miranda for Hamilton!

I would like to get a chromosome count on these app developers. They certainly don't know how to use them or they wouldn't keept putting in these stupid features.

This is such an annoyance, yet so easy for Adboe to fix for us, they clearly do not care. Why should I have to "print" the PDF just to get this idiotic bookmake pane to stop opening. Please, Adobe, FIX THIS. I cant do anything about what program my employer provides or I would drop Adobe immediately over this.

With what ever version was current on 6/08/24, I could NOT get bookmarks to stay closed on any document. Under preferences I "disabled New Acrobat experience" (disabled the disaster) ...... and now bookmarks can be hidden.
Good grief.

Spoke too soon ....... I have to disable bookmarks for every single document I open ... but that is remembered. Good grief. I wish Adobe developers would be forced to read these complaints each time they opened any application on thier PCs.

Thank you for this, it worked on mine. Try asking a tech and that was painful. Thanks!

Worked for me, Thank you! They just change things for the sake of changing things. I hope their coffee is always cold and their computers always laggy

Go to File and click on Disable New Acrobat. The All Tools and Bookmarks no longer display when I open PDFs. I should note, however, I canceled my subscription awhile ago. For subscribers, I don't know whether you'll experience any adverse effects. I don't see an option to Enable New Acrobat. That's another can of worms.

Indeed. Disabling New Acrobat is the only option that has worked for me. Took me one week to figure that out. Thanks!

I added an 'Idea'/feature request for this, if y'all would like to upvote it. Maybe that will work to have this remedied?

The Acrobat developers use another site called UserVoice for Ideas and Bugs. Can you post there and put the link back in this thread so it can be upvoted?

Thanks, @jane-e . There was a post on uservoice that I commented on to help encourage this.

Agree 100% that this needs an option to turn off at the user level. So annoying.
