How do I left align (left, center, right, proportional) text in a text box?

I've spent hours on this, and am going bonkers. Two days of struggling with Adobe DC. Seems it wants everything to be really complicated.  Its help system is even worse.  Hopefully, someone has a simple solution.

I have text in a template I need to modify. So I clicked Edit PDF button then deleted the existing text I wanted to update and entered the new stuff. However, after I entered the new text, DC proportionally justified it (i.e., it spread it across the page), even though all the existing text was left justified.  So I highlighted my new text that was formatted incorrectly and clicked the Align Left button. Nothing changed . Out of curiosity/despiration, I selected the text again then clicked the Align Right & Center Align buttons, but again no change (how is this even possible?).

Can someone please take a minute and explain how to force DC to stop its wacky proportional alignment of the new text and let me left align it so it matches all the other text in the doc?

Thanks!

It works for me. You should post a sample file so that I can try with your file.

I finally gave up on DC and just exported the doc to Word where I could correct DC's wacky formatting then saved the doc as a PDF.  Was so much easier than fighting Adobe's wacky icon based commands (it would be great if Adobe finally woke up, admitted how bad DC is and started rebuilding their old menu sysyem).
