How do I use the Erase Free Form tool in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, old version 11.0.23

I have a retired version of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro for which I tried for the first time to use the Erase Free Form tool. It did not erase any text or image in a PDF. Is there a setting or preference which must be entered to use this tool? Any feedback would be appreciated.

No, because that's not what it does. It deleted only Pencil comments.

If you want to remove static contents use the Redaction tool.
