How to install free version of Acrobat

Enthusiast ,

This will seem like an odd question. I have recently bought a new iMac. I have downloaded and installed all my Adobe programs on the new computer. All that is fine. I didn't remove all the apps from my old computer... just in case something happens to my new one (it's happened to me before). However, in the meantime... I'd like to be able to open PDFs on my old computer, so I figured I'd just download the free version of Acrobat. When I try, it says I have a version of Acrobat already installed... and it won't let me install the free version. So I thought I'd just remove the installed version of Adobat DC. But... apparently Adobe Creative Cloud was automatically removed when I installed the programs on my new computer. OK. In my Acrobat folder on my old computer, I see "Acrobat Uninstaller." But when I click on that, nothing happens. So... is there anything I can do? Or do I just need to delete all my Adobe apps from my old computer? And if so, what is the best way to do this now that I don't have Creative Cloud on there? Thanks!

Update: Adobe Creative Cloud is still on my old computer. It just took a long time to open. But it wants me to sign in... and I'm afraid if I do that it will log me out on my new computer. Is that a big deal?

HI @DigitalChickster:

You can run both Acrobat and Adobe Reader on the same computer—I always keep both installed.

Your Creative Cloud license allows you two installations per license. To be clear, there are meant to both be used by you and in theory, not at the same time. But your licence agreeement allows  you to reinstall Acrobat on the old computer while keeping it in place on the new computer, without any issues. I would start there and then come back to install Adobe Reader from this link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

As for the speed issue, try restarting your computer to see if that makes a difference. And again, you can definitely be signed into both of the Creative Cloud Desktop Apps.

Hi @DigitalChickster

Please try uninstalling Acrobat using the cleaner tool ( https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html#macintosh) and then install free version from https://get.adobe.com/reader/

Ravi
