How to use a supplied '.Joboptions' file

Community Beginner ,
Nov 22, 2018 Nov 22, 2018

I have been supplied with a joboptions file by a publishing house.  I have copied it to the adobe folder where all the other joboptions files are held on my computer (C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\Settings) but it does not appear in the PDF Maker Conversion Settings, so I cannot select it. Any advice on how I can get it recognised?

These folders have changed name in some releases, and are hidden by default, to protect them (a surprising number of people, on finding files they don't understand, start deleting them).

Use Windows Key + R and type

%APPDATA%

including the percent keys to get to folder the document describes as Documents and Settings > [yourname] > Application Data

The custom joboptions are not stored in the same folder as the built-ins. Please read this article from InDesign Secrets by Steve Werner:

Thanks for the response, but the folders indicated in your article must refer to paths that are not in Windows 10. My system doesn't have any <Documents and Settings> folder or <Applications Data> folders. The <Documents> folder doesn't hold anything of interest (i,e, only documents!). It is possible to find <AppData> folders when doing a search, but they don't appear to be accessible, so I assume they must be hidden.

I suspect they should be somewhere in <C:\Program Files (x86)>.  There are plenty of folders here; have tried some folders without success.

Any further advice?

Yessssss.  Thank you. I would never have guessed how to do that, and the instructions from the publisher certainly wouldn't have got me there! The Windows+R key took me to  C:\Users\[my laptop name]\AppData\Roaming,,,,,, and then I found …..\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings...……. which is where I copied the file.

I wish the software publishers would make sure the 'save' dialogue boxes come out on top and not behind other windows as that always prevents you from knowing a process has ended. Happened with this.

Thanks again
