I keep getting this message in the pdf file - how do I fix this, I can't find the bit I have put in bold, and this ahs never been an issue before
This is an Adobe® Illustrator® File that was
saved without PDF Content.
To Place or open this le in other
applications, it should be re-saved from
Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF
Compatible File" option turned on. This
option is in the Illustrator Native Format
Options dialog box, which appears when
saving an Adobe Illustrator le using the
Save As command.

Acrobat has absolutely no way of converting a pure Adobe Illustrator .ai file into a PDF file regardless of urban legends to the contrary.
Illustrator does have the capability of saving its own .ai files with PDF content as well as the private Illustrator objects. If you have such a .ai file, then what Acrobat does is to use that PDF content as the PDF file and then save it as a .pdf file. If you have a .ai file that was saved without the PDF option, then Acrobat has no way of opening and displaying the content.
Best workflow practice is to treat Illustrator and PDF content as totally separate entities. When you are done editing an Illustrator file, save it as a .ai file and then, use the save as copy option to resave the file as PDF using appropriate options for your particular needs. (For example, going to print, the PDF/X-4 settings are most strongly recommended assuming you have a CMYK-based Illustrator file.)
