I marked my changes and saved my PDF.  When I opened it, I cannot find my comments and markups. What happened?

Hi Curiesevilla,

As mentioned, you have added markups to the PDF and saved them but after reopening it you cant find the changes there. During this process did you use Adobe Acrobat DC desktop application or worked on DC web interface?

We need a bit more information to understand what exactly went wrong.

1- After adding markups, are you saving the file locally or on DC web storage? There is a possibility that you have added markups and saved a copy of the file, but when opening the file its a original one which doesn't have anything added to it.

2- If its a desktop app causing trouble, then use web interface to for commenting.

3- Help us with the exact version of Adobe Reader/Acrobat application you are working on? Open App>Help>About Acrobat.

Let us know if you have managed to find the solution.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Need a down thumb button as well, because this answer is not very helpful at all.

At the very least, we'd need to know what program you used to open the PDF and apply the markup.  Lots of programs - even browsers will allow you to view a PDF, but their functionality varies greatly.  Provide as much detail as you can about your OS, program, and process used.  We'll do our best to help troubleshoot the issue.

My best,

Dave

Dave,   I understand....but as a user, I want to be able to mark up on my desktop (PC for my home office and Macbook for my laptop), iPad and phone (android).   I did a lot of work yesterday marking student papers, and all of my markups are lost.  That is a lot of time that has been stolen from me.  Yesterday the markups were available to me on my iPad, where I did the markups and my PC where I was viewing them.   When I got up this morning, all of the markups were gone.  I can access them on any platform.  So, I don't understand how the question is relevant, and I want the product to work across all platforms and be seamless. As a user, I don't care if it is in a browser, app, or installed program.   I have to say I was beside myself when this happened, and I need a solution.  I have started over; just in case the issue was with the free version of the software, I purchased a subscription on my iPad.  Now I can't use that subscription on my PC??  Seriously, you want me to pay for each platform I use??  If this is the case, I will cancel my subscription and find other software to use.

For clarity - I wasn't inferring that you can't use different versions of Adobe software.  Adobe is one company that makes software that facilitates opening, viewing, printing and manipulating PDFs.  Because your initial post did not specify what program or computer type used, I was just trying to get clarity on if you used Acrobat, Reader, or an application made by another company.  I do markup on one machine and am able to see those changes reflected on other devices that are logged into the same Adobe account.  And you should be able to as well.  You can use your subscription on two devices, as I understand it.  It should not matter what platform they run.

I'm a fellow user like you, so if someone else can offer a more concise response, I know they will - there are lots of smart, experienced people that are here to help.

My best,

Dave

Hey Dave, Sorry! I thought you were from Adobe. I can’t seem to get my subscription to work across platforms. I was really angry when I lost all my work. I am currently on a time limit.

Thanks for the inputs!! Very appreciated.

For the access of the documents on different devices you must save the documents in the Document Cloud.

Yes,   I am tracking that.  No issue.  The documents are available on different devices.   It also works if you use a service like onedrive and dropbox.   That does not explain why the markups disappeared?  The point that I was trying to make to Dave was that it is great that he wants to know where the documents are being marked up, but we need a multi-platform solution.

You can lost markups when you open a document on different devices at the same time.

Hi. I know this is an old discussion but this just happened to me on Macbook. I lost all comments/markup but they reappeared when I restarted the laptop... so definitely worth a go for anyone experiencing this issue.
