No, you cannot use a hot folder for OCR (or any of the other Acrobat features).

Correct, Distiller allows hot folders, but not the Acrobat application. But that still does not get you around the OCR/hotfolder problem.

You probably need a more heavyweight specialist tool from another maker. Acrobat supports only the lightest duty automation.

Acrobat can't do it automatically, but you can do it by starting the OCR conversion. It can convert a bunch of files in 1 go.

You can do it either by creating an action to run OCR or using inbuilt functionality

  1. Go to Tools> Enhance scan
  2. Click menu item Recognize Text> In multiple files
  3. Click "Add files" option at top left corner of dialog
  4. Select suitable option files/folder or opened files
  5. Select all the documents you need to run text recognition
  6. In "output option" dialog select folder where you want to save and name of output files and click OK
  7. In "Recognize Text - General settings" window, select language and "Output" as "Searchable Image" or "Searchable Image Exact" or "Editable Text and Images" and Ok

Thanks.
