Inserting a blank page between PDFs when merged

I am looking for away to combine multiple PDFs and put a blank page between them. Is that possible? Basically the documents need to be printed and put into binders with tabs in between them. If they do not have the blank pages, it would mean that you might end up with one document having an odd number of pages and the next document being on the back side of it. I do not know how to code but the requirements would be this:

When merging multiple PDFs together:

  • If a PDF is an even number of pages, do not insert a blank page
  • If a PDf is an odd number of pages, insert a blank page

Is anyone able to offer a script that could do that? Or any kind of work around?

If you have the option enabled to add bookmarks that point to the first page of each merged file then it can be done with a script, yes. Otherwise you'll need to find some other way of telling the script where each file begins (or ends), or perform the entire operation using a script, in order for it to be able to do that.

That's great to know. Are you able to advise what the script would be that I would input? I have zero experience with scripts or how to code them.

That depends on the situation... Each one will require a different kind of script. At any rate, it's not a trivial task.

I was already using Sejda.com PDF Desktop for some PDF editing functions, and recently had to merge a large number of PDFs. Under 'options' next to the merge button once I'd added the files, it allowed me to automatically insert a blank page after odd page numbered PDFs, ensuring the new PDF always started on the right, along with a raft of other options to dictate how you wanted it to treat bookmarks etc.

My work had me investigate whether it would be worthwhile puchasing an Acrobat Pro licence so I signed up to the free trial to investigate. I found that while Adobe was great at some functions, especially editing, it wasnt so much better the Sejda that it justified the nearly 4x price increase. It also didn't allow me the option to convert PPTX files to PDF using the handout format that the 'Save As-PDF' function within PowerPoint did, and when merging PDFs it had a fraction of the available options that Sejda did, particularly not having the insert blank page function.

If you're still interested, I'd check out Sejda, and if you want to try it out to see if it fits the bill, I first purchased the week-long licence and once I proved how good it was immediately signed up for the annual once that was finished.
