Hello everyone
I have a PDF file from Autocad with several million surfaces. The display takes several tens of minutes to complete. Sometimes the software crashes (I guess it hangs because it does not respond).
Is there a limit to the number of objects contained in a PDF file?
Thanks for the answers.

For sure, there is a limit but I never reached it. Autocad, however, seams to be known to create especially nasty files. It simply could be that the printer crashes because of that.

Tnx for your answer
The printer is a imagesetter, the RIP accepts the flow without problem, it is Acrobat that hangs. I will try to increase the memory, it is possible that the 12Go are insufficient for this kind of work. These are integrated circuit designs.

Mac or Windows Acrobat?
What memory is it using as it fails?

Windows with seven and 12 GB for RAM.
I do not know if the system hangs or if it continues to calculate the file for display.
On a conventional file the display of the file request 3 to 4 minutes, but with the test file of my client, after 29 minutes I have only partial display. (and at 30 minutes the computer goes on standby !!)

Ok, Windows. What does task manager show for the used memory of Acrobat at the time of the problem? (Or at intervals)?

From reading your post seems like you are in a networked environment. If that was the case, are the printer drivers installed in a Windows server (which version?),
Can you tell if the imagessetter printer drivers were updated and changed in anyway?
Is the Adobe product that is currently installed on your Mac or Windows computers recognizing the correct drivers? ( using any remote desktop connection services and such?)
Is this a virtual printer driver?

Good idea to check system resources ..
The memory is used at 30% but the processor is used on average at 25% with peaks at 85 - 90%
When the display is finished, the memory is 40% occupied and the processor is 1%.
It seems that my machine lacks a few resources ...!
And to answer ls_rbls, it's only this kind of PDF file coming from a DXF file conversion that is causing me problems. The large quantity of surface contained in the draw to describe a curve or a circle, must require a large amount of calculations that my computer has difficulty solving.
With Pitstop I selected a unique drawing and it consists of 14,251 objets and 105 clipping masks. And this drawing is duplicated 16 times in an A4 page (so 228,016 objets, I thought it was more.)

Yes, but how MUCH memory for Acrobat. I am asking this for a good reason!! You cannot increase the total, but we can find out if it's running out.

I do not remember that it is possible to allocate a quantity of memory to Acrobat with Windows. With Photoshop, yes, but Acrobat I do not see how ..
I let windows manage virtual memory itself.

I'm asking only once more to look at how much it is actually USING in Task Manager. Not to look for setups, nor increase RAM, but to look at actual memory use. If you don't know how to find out, please say.

In regards to what Test Screen Name is asking from you, that brings me to partially suggest some additional tweaks in your Windows 7 computer:
You can (and should) create data collector sets through the performance monitor like shown here:
https://www.computerperformance.co.uk/windows-7/data-collector-set/
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/how-to-use-perfmon-performance-monitor-windows
And you can also use the same technique to activate all the cores in your processor plus increase your RAM as I found in two videos titled "Double Your Computer CPU Speed for Free" and "Double your Computer RAM for Free" posted by youtuber ThioJoe back in July 15, 2016 and March 23, 2016 respectively

On the other hand, I have very limited to no-experience in the tools that you are using, but I have to ask:
Are you saying that you were able to use the Pitstop software to do the DXF file to PDF conversion and also open it and edit the converted PDF file with Pitstop and had no issues?
OR, is it that when you open the same converted to PDF file with Adobe Acrobat you get the issue?
What if an important step was missed while changing the preflight settings in your Pitstop software before the file is converted?
So I went ahead and read a little more and I think I found the following links to be of interest:
Here is an Adobe Help guide on removing page or object, resetting printer settings to defaults, combining fragmented images, merging/flattening layers, adjusting transparencies, changing Postscript option and error handling in Windows

This link on how to set andvanced printing options and the next one on how to troubleshoot Postscript errors:

This last two are a little redundant, but I am linking them here if other members of the community are reading and want to learn some basics about the CAD environment you are using:

Autocad can write PDF files.

Tnx for links..
I have no problem for printing.
My problem is the extreme slowness for the PDF file to open and went I want make any modification or verification.
I am a provider and the PDF files are given by my clients. This PDF file comes from an integrated circuit creation software and the possible export format is the DXF.
Then the DXF format is important in Illustrator (I guess it's at this moment that my client duplicates the drawings) and then it saves in PDF.
This is the file he sends me.
Pitstop is an Acrobat plugin that adds editing and verification features.
Fortunately it does not happen every day .. But when I get this kind of file, I have to wait Acrobat and do nothing. It's a waste of time.

You may be aware that Windows 7 is reaching end of support in January of 2020. Recently I've read in other threads a few recommendations from staff and users to users alike to the Windows 7 users.
As Adobe continues to move forward with their products, and in support of newer OS's (Mac and Windows), some issues have manifested when using Windows 7 in combination with newer versions of an Adobe product. Some upgrades, patches or fixes will show a tendency of not working very well with the older operating systems, even if it that system was working fine before.
Knowing that your computer meets more than the minimum requirements for Windows 10, would it be convenient and time-saving for you to re-try the same scneario in a Windows 10 computer?
Say, If that works, then consider upgrading to Win10 through a clean install in that machine.

Reason I mentioned that suggestion is based on your last reply when you say it does not happen everyday, and that it happens when you get that type of file.
Maybe, just maybe, Windows 10 manages virtual memory addressing, memory allocation and multitasking better than its predecessor Windows7.
And maybe it is better equipped and more reliable in comparison to Windows7 when the Adobe Continuous Track and Classic Track release cycles push their monthly, quarterly, yearly updates and fixes... this is just a maybe to consider. I would research more before upgrading from Win 7 but it is worth considering in my very personal opinion. (I am not marketing Microsoft technologies by the way).

I am not a follower of the latest versions of the softwares. Seven is suitable for my use and especially it allows me to continue to use my old imagesetters for which there is no driver for W10.
I close the subject. I thank you for sharing your ideas with me
Cordially.
