Lost so many hours of work. Can I get it back?

I had been working yesterday evening and all this Saturday reading and adding a lot of comments in a complicated document when something suddenly happened. The program shot down and I got a message that the program had restored a document and asked if I wanted to keep the file. Yes or No? I managed to hit the wrong bottom (probably a knee jerk reflex because I normally never save restored documents because I do most of my writing i Word, where everything is saved every minute and there are sure copies of everything) and now the document is clean. And I cannot find the restored document. Is it possible to get the information back?

The only file in the directory is the one I saved to the computer yesterday afternoon.

Is it really possible that this program has no automatic saving of information etc. It is also very difficult to believe that I would never have saved this file, not even once, during all these hours.

Hi @BertStL

Unfortunately, comment or any other changes in the document gets discarded if you press 'No' on the restore document dialog. There is no option to restore if you hit No.

In future, you can use the preference setting(screenshot attached) to reduce the time of "Automatically save document changes to temporary file every" time which would help in restoring the most recent changes. It's not a solution to your issue but would help in restoring most recent changes, in case you end up in similar situation..

Thanks,

Rohit A

RohitAnand: Thank you for your reply. However, that was already done. (It was at 5 as your image show. I just changed it to 1.) And I was unable to find any temporary file.

It may be possible to recover your lost work. Here's what you can try:

  1. Check AutoRecover/AutoSave Files: Many programs, like Word, save temporary versions of your work. Search for "AutoRecover" or ".asd" files on your computer.

  2. Look in Temporary Files: Navigate to your computer's temporary files folder (e.g., %temp% on Windows) and search for documents that match your recent edits.

  3. Search Backups: If you have enabled backups or cloud syncing (OneDrive, Google Drive), check there for older versions of the document.

  4. Recovery Software: Use file recovery tools like Recuva to search for lost versions of the file.

  5. Contact Support: If you're using a specific program for this work, reach out to their support team—they might have additional recovery options.

Act quickly, as temporary files may get overwritten. Infection control experts  often emphasize the importance of timely intervention to minimize risks—similarly, addressing data loss promptly gives you the best chance of recovery.

That’s tough, I’ve been there. If the program saves temporary files, you might be able to locate the restored version in the temp folder or by checking your backups geometry dash 2.2 apk, if enabled.
