I am trying to update my signature and initials in Adobe because I need to draw them instead of using the typed version. However, the minus sign is greyed out and nothing happens when I click on it.

Hi Caitlyn

We are sorry for the trouble. As described, you are not able to change the signature and initials in Adobe Fill and Sign  as the minus sign is greyed out.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat / Reader DC installed? To check the version of the application please use the link (https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/identify-product-version.html)
Make sure you have the latest version 20.006.20042 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates

Please try to repair installation (For Windows Only) Go to Help > Repair Installation

If it still doesn't work, please try the following steps

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal

I am having the exact same problem. I tried repairing a rebooting and it doesn't work. Was installed through Creative Cloud so I can't use the cleaner/reinstall tool.

That is not an issue, you can use the cc cleaner tool to uninstall acrobat:
https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Then once done, install from direct link:
https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

Also, you can install Reader and try using the fill and sign to see if that is working:

Hi there

Please remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html, reboot the computer and reinstall the application using the direct link https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/acrobat-2020-downloads.html and check.

Tried the other options.....didn't work.

What DID work for me was to go here and delete the file on C:\ and then recreate the signature.

  1. Close Adobe
  2. Open File Explorer, get to C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Security
  3. Delete the acrobat_fss_signature_ files.  I had three of them.
  4. Open a file in Adobe
  5. Click Fill & Sign
  6. Click Sign Yourself
  7. Click + and create a new signature

Hope this helps save someone else an hour or so of time trying these other things.  The steps above took less than two minutes.
