No dictionaries were found...

New Here ,
May 27, 2016 May 27, 2016

Whenever I type a character (whether in Edit PDF or comment), I get a popup error saying "No dictionaries were found. your installation might be corrupted." When I close the popup, the rest of the session runs fine, and I don't get the error message until the next time I start a session and try to type something. I have run the repair tool from the installation software, and it didn't fix this error.

Any idea how to fix this?

This worked for me on windows 11  * 10-26-2021

Go to Edit  :  Click Preferences

                    :  Click Security ( Enhanced )

:   In sandbox Protected mode at startup (preview) " UNCLICK  "

                    :   Restart Adobe

: Then Check, Edit ,Prefrences , check Spelling to See if works

IF works     : Turn back on in sandbox protected mode at startup " CLICK ON "

                    :   Restart Adobe

Should be golden 🙂

To whomever posted the "Security (Enhanced)" procedure, IT DOES NOT WORK! As soon as Protected Mode is re-enabled, the dictionary disappears again. It's beyond ridiculous.

The better solution is to turn off "Protected Mode" in "Security (Enhanced)" but make sure you use a reputable Antivirus program that can do the job that Adobe can't do correctly.

Same here. I followed the instructions turning off Protected Mode and it worked. Then, when I re-enabled Protected Mode, I got the same "No dictionaries were found. Your installation might be corrupted" error message.

Annoying. I guess I'll keep protected mode turned off.

I replied this last year:

For me all is good while "Run in AppContainer" is off. Makes half sense, because dictionaries are probably not in that container. Protected Mode can stay on.

Does it not work for you with AppContainer unchecked?

This was the right solution for me. Once I unchecked 'Run in AppContainer', I was able to open the Options → Spelling menu and see the installed dictionaries. And the dictionary error stopped appearing 🙂
