Did you print or use PDF Maker (create PDF)? I think you have to use the latter to enable embedded files, but I am not sure that will do it either - worth a check.

Is there any documentation that says that embedded files should be converted to attachments? I just briefly looked at the Acrobat documentation and can find no reference to that capability.

If PDF Maker will not include the links, then you will probably have to use the link tool to include them manually. As long as you do not have too many of those links, it should not be a problem. The linked files might have to be made into PDF files also for proper operation.
I tried the objects in WORD 2003 and used PDF Maker to create a PDF. I had all of the options selected in PDF Maker. The files had no link in the PDF. I was able to simply add a link within the PDF, but it was not added automatically by PDF Maker. I think this was the same result you had found. Thus, I guess you are stuck with adding the object links after the fact. I think that with newer versions of Acrobat, you can actulally embed the object within the PDF also.

It is the link tool in the TOOLS menu of Acrobat, or on the toolbar. That does not make it easy as if it had transferred directly from WORD, but it might do the job. If you are talking about movies or audio, you should use the appropriate tool, not the link tool.

Depending on the need, it would be the link, video, or music tools most likely.
