Hi Michael, was the document protected from opening, or from editing. My understanding is that the first case (opening) uses real encryption and a hacker would have to be very determined, very lucky, or have somehow obtained the password. The second case (editing) is very easy to defeat - google will easily find free Internet services that do the trick.

Can you describe in greater detail how were you able to determine that a password in a PDF document was hacked?
Can you share which steps or Tools did you used to discover that the password was indeed tampered with?
What version of Adobe Acrobat (or third party PDF handler/viewer was in use when this happened?
What operating system and version? What type of computer (personal desktop (laptop) computer, mobile device, tablet computer? networked client PC?
In which type of setting did this happened? (at a school library , workplace, at home, cofee shop with public WiFi hotspot (for example?)
How many people use the same computer where the suspected compromised file exists?
Who else have accessed that file before this happenned and how long ago did this incident happened? How many people used to use the same password to access this file? Was it only you?
