Has anyone experienced problems with PDF files not opening right away? I've had this problem for months now. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. I check for updates regularily. The problem is when I click on a PDF, the first file most of the time opens right away. Although not always, sometimes I have to click 3 or 4 times before it opens. Then if I click a second, or third or fourth file, they do not open, it takes several clicks and eventually they open. So it's not that Adobe can't read the file because it can. But why does it take so many clicks to open? It's really, really frustruating. Even if I sit and wait after the first click nothing happens. I thought maybe it just takes time but nope. It just doesn't want to open additional files without repeated clicking. Any ideas out there on how to fix this gliche?

Hi ClaudiaHouwers
Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble, As described the pdf don't open right after you click it.
Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? PLease try with a different PDF file and check. If the file is stored on a shared network/drive, please download it to your computer locally and then try to open it and check.
What is the version of the OS and the application you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 21.07.20099 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.
Also try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau... and see if that works for you.
You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in windows or enable the root account in mac and try using the application there and check.

Hello Amal,
Thank you for your response. I do have the latest version installed, Version 2021.007.20099. I recently uninstalled the version I had and installed the new one. But I still have the same problem. It happens with all PDFs. The files are not stored on a shared network but on my local drive. I am using Window 10. Since I installed Windows 10 about a year ago, this problem started. I did not have this problem with Windows 7.
I have repaired the installation to see if that would help but it has not. I can open the first file OK but after that they do not open anymore without me clicking over and over again. Even if I wait for a minute or two, nothing happens.
Also, I can't seem to reset the preferences because I do not have an AppData folder/
Windows 10, 7/Vista) C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\[version]
It's very frustrating I dont' know what happened but it's making it very difficult for me to get my work done.

I have found the AppData folder. I followed the instructions to show hidden files. I have moved the preference folder and it seems to be working a little bit but not 100%. If I use right click and "open with" the chances of the file opening is better than just simply double clicking. I've played around with adjusting the speed of my mouse clicks but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I may be able to manage now but it's definately not as good as it once was.
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi there
You may also try to turn off the protected mode for testing (Win Only) and see if that works. Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup', Turn off the protected mode and uncheck Enhanced security > Click OK and reboot the computer once.
Note: Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk.
Regards
Amal
