People I send documents to cannot search with password enabled.

I don't want people being able to edit my documents but the whole point of sending a file to someone is so they can view and search the whole document. Problem is, you can't search a pdf document with a password on, you get nothing. I sell documents of legal files and I don't want them to change anything but I wonder why search has anything to do with editing.

Any workarounds to this? I prefer not to go through the signing process and I'm not sure if a signed contract can be searched either.

Document password but that doesn't work no matter what, it will ask for a password. In permissions it will work if I click on enable text access like maxwithdax said below.

What is the difference in security between document password and permissions password as far as security? I just want to stop people from changing my document and yet seach at the same time.

You need to turn on the accessibility features of your document. Check the box for "Enable text access for screen reader devices for the visually impaired." This will allow the search text feature to work as well.
