"Reduce File Size" results in a much larger PDF

New Here ,
Jul 17, 2022 Jul 17, 2022

Hello,

I have a 10MB PDF that a colleague wishes to reduce so that it can be emailed across our business via Outlook. I've attempted to optimise the PDF and save it as a reduced file, but the output dramatically increases, becoming a 98MB PDF instead...

As far as I can tell there are no embedded fonts in the original PDF and there are no native security settings, nothing that would make for larger content.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

When you use the PDF Optimizer what can you see at "Audit space usage" ?

Hi Bernd, sorry for my ignorance -- I don't see that information anywhere when I use the optimise option. I'm not using Adobe Acrobat Pro, so maybe I don't have access to that?

The Optimizer is not available in Adobe Acrobat Standard.

It must be using the same mechanism that the "Reduce File Size" feature does, then, in the standard version. I'm able to select PDF Optimisation but it takes me to the same dialog that I get when reducing the file size. I can't adjust any settings or anything from there.

Where does you select PDF Optimisation?

Hi Bernd, I have a PDF Optimisation shortcut in the toggled toolbar:

And these are the three options I'm given with this shortcut, but the only one I can use is "Reduce File Size" -- the other two I cannot use with Adobe Acrobat Standard:

This is still unresolved, if anyone has advice or has experienced this problem themselves.
