"This document could not be printed" + "Activate your Licence" despite paying for a licence

New Here ,
Sep 20, 2021 Sep 20, 2021

For the past couple of days I have had the message "This document could not be printed" whenever I have tried to print something through Acrobat DC.

I have also had several "Activate your licence" messages in Acrobat despite the fact I have been paying for a licence for the past 3 years and Photoshop / InDesign / Illustrator all work normally and do not show this message.

Does anyone have any quick fixes or ideas?

Cheers

If a re-installation of Acrobat does not fix this problem, then you will need to get in touch with Adobe's customer support. They are the only ones who can look into activation or licensing issues.

Hi there

++ Adding to the discussion

  • Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file that you try to print or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check. Also check the document restriction summary of the PDF file and see if printing is allowed. Open PDF > File > Properties > Under security tab, check the restriction summary of the document.

  • What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 21.07.20091 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

  • What is the make and model of the printer you are using? Please check for any missing/pending update for printer driver and firmware and try updating it. You may also try to remove the printer driver and then reinstall it from the manufacturer website and check.

Please try to print the file as an image and see if that works. Go to Print > Advanced > Print as Image.
Also, please share the screenshot of the activation error message for a better understanding.

You may also checkout the steps shared in the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-pdf-printing-acrobat-reader.html and see if that works.

Amal

Hi Amal

Thanks for the reply.

  • The error message appears whenever I try to print from any PDF.
  • The version of Acrobat I have installed is 2021.007.20091. I also Uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat DC in order to make sure it had not been corrupted during updates.
  • The printers I am attempting to print to are

          HP z6200

          HP z6800

          Kip 860

Out of the above three printers only the z6800 has not been updated recently.

Attempting to Print As Image was my first thought but this still resulted in a "Document could not be printed" message.

I will take a screenshot and upload it to this thread when it next occurs. It usually happens when I try and to convert, combine or crop files but as usual it never happens when you need/want it to.

Thanks

Hi Paulm

We are sorry to hear that. Also please share the sample PDF file causing the issue along with the screenshot of the error message so that we can check it at our end.

I have the same issue and have tried everything online to fix with no success. I get two messages - the first is "The document could not be printed" and the second is "An error occured while printing the document". I have the most recent Reader and Acrobat CC. Windows 10. HP 8600 printer (the most recent driver I can get and have is from 2018). Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now, no pdf files will print. It's frustrating since I have a LOT of pdf files.

Hi there

We are sorry to hear that. Are you trying to change the page size from the properties tab while printing and getting the above error message? If yes, the issue is reported to our engineering team and they are working on it to find the fix.

You may also try to chnage the page size from the 'Page Setup' option present in the lower left corner of the print window in Acrobat and try to print and see if that helps.

Regards

Amal
