When using the 'Read out loud' function I cannot change the 'Words per minute' or the 'Pitch'. I am experiencing this issue in both Acrobat Reader as well as Adobe Pro DC. I am using the Mac version with the following information as shown below. The speed is too slow to use the function rendering it useless.

Acrobat Pro DC

Architecture: x86_64

Build: 19.10.20064.311007

OSX Mojave

Did you try once to change the Speech settings on your Mac?

If not, try once and check if that makes any difference.

Go to the Apple menu on your Mac and select System Preferences from the drop-down list.

Select 'Accessibility' from the System Preferences window.

Then scroll down till Speech and change the Speaking Rate at right.

Check if that works for you.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Håvardb,

When you open the PDF in Acrobat Pro DC, go to application Preferences > Reading.

Uncheck the box for "Use default speech attributes".

Then you will be able to change the 'Pitch' and 'Words per minute' for the Read Out Loud.

read out loud option to change the pitch.JPG

Check if that helps.

If you still experience the issue, let us know.

Thanks for the reply, I have to change these settings, but both for the 'pitch' and 'words per minute' won't change regardless of what I change it to. I also tried different voices, but the speed and pitch still won't change. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I am not 100% sure how this works, but if I use the 'read out loud' function from the mac I can change the setting in the system settings you provided me with. So now I can read out loud using the system functions, but the Adobe functions still won't function. Although, the inbuilt mac function has a more natural voice so it solved my problem.

Agreed -- nothing I do influences the Adobe DC reading speed.

I find that opening the pdf with Microsoft Edge starts up with a read out loud function that works perfectly.  Not gonna spend anymore time trying to figure this out.
