Replace selected text

New Here ,
Jun 27, 2023 Jun 27, 2023

Adobe Acrobat Pro updated on my computer recently and ever since then I haven't been able to use the 'Replace selected text' tool by highlighting text and typing over it. Now I'm limited to the more time-consuming approach of highlighting text, right-clicking, and selecting 'Add Note to Replace Text'.

Has the type-to-replace-text functionality been abandoned for the new update?

Hi @Sarah30745001gtmw

Hope you are doing well.

Looking at the description above, I believe you are on Acrobat's new UI. This is an intentional change in the new UI.

To bring back the old experience for now, you can disable new UI.

Click on the hamburger icon at the upper left corner.

Disable New Acrobat

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused. You can share your product experience with our Product team here: https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html

Thanks,

Akanchha

Thanks Akanchha. I'll share this tip with my colleagues -- quite a few people have been caught out by this change and much prefer the old UI. It's much faster for editors to type over text in order to replace it rather than right-click and select the 'Add Note to Replace Text' option each time. Do please consider this for the new UI.

Really? That's the only option? Please say the decision about this has changed since July and you are working on a way to bring back the automatic replace text option. I see I can insert text just by placing my cursor between words and typing. Why can't the replace text tool work the same way?

I would like the old way brought back too OR There are tools that show up when I highlight text. Please add the replace text option there.

Thanks!

I see this was brought back. Thank you! Just every once in a while it doesn't work and I'm not sure what causes it to work intermittently.

Either I am stupid or it is gone again, which is incredibly annoying.

Hi @polymedia_pub,

With the newer versions, we have brought back this feature.

You might want to update the app to the latest version(2024.003.20112) and check if it works for you.

To update, click on Menu-> Help-> Check for updates.

Also, adding a screen recording for reference.

Please let me know if this is not what you see.

This feature seems to be gone again in the latest update (2024.003.20180). Is there any way to enable it? It's very tedious to have to right-click and select it from the dropdown instead of simply typing over

We are working to get this feature back in the app.

Please allow us some time to get this implemented.
