SAVE Brings up SAVE AS Dialog

New Here ,
Feb 11, 2020 Feb 11, 2020

Hello.

I'm using Acrobat X Version 10.0.0 on Windows 7. Whenever I try to save a PDF that I've edited, often removing metadata, I hit CTRL+S, or go to File > Save and the "Save As" dialog box comes up. The same dialog box that would come up if I had hit SHIFT+CTRL+S or clicked "Save As."

Sometimes the Save function works as it should, like if I were to remove pages from a PDF then hit Save, it just saves, no dialog box.

It's an awful slowdown some days when I have a lot of files to get through. I would just like to save to the file that I've opened, is there a way to do that? I saw something elsewhere that said to disable "Enhanced Security," but that didn't work.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Both of your operating system and Adobe Acrobat product versions are no longer supported.

If your programs weren't acting out before, can you tell if this problem began after an update was applied to other programs that interact with Acrobat?

Hello. Thanks for the reply.

As far as I can remember, Acrobat has always done that.

Have you checked if changing the keyboard layout and test it in windows would help in any way?

Maybe updating the keyboard driver? or switch and try with  another keyboard.

Also, when you use SHIFT+CTRL+S with another application does it behaves in the same way or is this just with the Acrobat application?

See the following guidance: https://nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/powerpoint-tutorials/keyboard-shortcuts-not-working/  and specifically rule out if this issue is not related to a program troll.

I think that happens if the document is read only, or there is some other reason it will not simply save the file. So it depends on the security and read/write policies (Operating system file privilege) of the original and the kind of edit you do if you can simply save or need to save as.

Acrobat 10.0.0 is stuffed with bugs, you should update to the latest version available: 10.1.16

Hello. Thanks, everyone, for the replies.

I just tried the same thing on a friend's computer, he's running Acrobat Pro DC Version 2015 and the exact same thing happened.

I opened a PDF file, no security on the file, and removed the metadata in the file using "Remove Hidden Information." When that was done, I hit CTRL+S and the "Save As PDF" dialog box came up. I also tried going to File > Save and the same thing happened. It's the exact same dialog box that comes up if I go to File > Save As.

Can someone else try what I'm doing and report the results? Thanks so much!

Can you confirm if this is happening with one particular PDF or every PDF file that are opened in these computers with different versions of Acrobat?

It's been happening to me for years, thousands of PDF's probably, from many different sources.

This is correct when you use "Remove Hidden Information".

"using "Remove Hidden Information." When that was done, I hit CTRL+S"

This is normal and expected behavior. After deleting sensitive information, you certainly wouldn't want to be able to accidentally replace your document.
There is nothing you can do to avoid it.
