Saving PDF while editing

New Here ,
Jul 05, 2019 Jul 05, 2019

I used to be able to save my PDF"s while editing normally, but after the 07/02/2019 update, every time when I try to save my files, it opens a dialog box for me to select where to save,, and when I try to save it, it appears as kind of a "Save As" option, and it forces me to overwrite the file that I'm editing.

Go to Edit (or the application menu if you're on a Mac) - Preferences - Security (Enhanced) and make sure that "Protected View" is set to "Off".

I've just begun trying Adobe's Reader for the first time in a decade or so.  Apparently I'm missing some logic here.

This whole process really sucks.  So I can open a file from my disk, but I can't save it back there again without a lot of badgering from Adobe?  So then I try to follow your suggestion, but of course Adobe has changed the preference settings since you posted so your suggestion is now seems to be "inoperative".

And I've tried to tell Adobe to just add my whole C: disk to their trusted sites.  Nope.  It apparently wants me to go through and add every single path on my disk individually?  Is there no simple solution?

I don't think it changed. Which part of it is no longer working for you?

Hi There,

I understand your situation, as you are getting trouble with saving the file after editing it's asking to overwrite the file.

Adding on to the suggestion by "try67",  this is the protected view feature of PDF, for added security, Acrobat Reader DC contains a protected mode and protected view to keep your computer safe. With Protected Mode enabled, all operations required by Acrobat Reader DC to display the PDF file are run in a restricted manner inside a confined environment, the “sandbox.”

In protected mode, malicious PDF documents cant launch arbitrary executable files or write to system directories or the Windows Registry.

For more information please refer to the help article in the link - Protected View feature for PDFs (Windows), Adobe Reader

As suggested by "try67" you may try the following troubleshooting steps below:

  • Go to Edit>preferences>Enhanced Security>turn off the protected view.
  • Go to Edit>preferences>Enhanced Security> uncheck the enhanced security tab.
  • Save the changes and close the application and relaunch.

Regards,

Amal
