Setting Scale for Measuring Area

Community Beginner ,
Feb 21, 2013 Feb 21, 2013

Hi,

I have PDF building plans which I want to measure some areas of.

I know how to get measure tool and then right click to get change scale ration etc.  I input the correct scale for what the drawing is and then proceed to measure either distance or area etc.

This does not seem to be working.  Even if I go back in and change the scale drastically, I still get the same area show up when measured.

Please help.

Cheers

Chris

OK,

So I have updated to Acrobat XI pro 11.0.0 and still same problem seems to exist.

I open a plan for the construction project I am on form the architects, select measurement tool, right click to change scale ration, set it to correct scale for the plan then take a measurement.  Does not appear to be correct.  And if I change the scale i still get the same measurement.

Please help.

Hey Chris,

I came across your question while trying to search for the same thing.  It's quite annoying.  I may have found a solution for you.  When you select the measurment tool and righ click to bring up the options window.  About halfway down there is an option called "preferences" at the very top of the preferences window there is a check box called "Use Scale and Units from Document (When Present)"  Uncheck that option.

That should hopefully solve your problem.  Not sure why Adobe would check that as a default.

Cheers,
