Shift + left mouse click inserts comment when output preview is open.

As the title says when I am attempting to edit multiple objects by holding down shift and clicking one Acrobat inserts a comment instead of selecting the next object. This happens when output preview is open. It is a "feature" and is documented here; Previewing output (Adobe Acrobat Pro)

I upgraded from 8 to DC a few months ago and this "feature" has been driving me nuts since.

I would like to know if there is a way to either disable this "feature" or switch the comment shortcut to anything other than shift. I work in pre-press with mostly spot colors and thus having the ability to have output preview open and select multiple objects to edit them would be just swell.

Thanks,
Damon Daniels

Hi,

With the latest update of Acrobat DC on 13th Feb, this issue has been addressed. Make sure you are on the latest update by visiting Help > Check for updates (18.011.2003x Planned update, February 13, 2018 — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products ).

We have added a preference "Use Shift + Click for Multiple Selection with Output Preview "  to enable multiple objects selection when the output preview dialog is open. To select multiple objects, use Shift + Click. To add a sticky note containing the color values, use Alt + Click (on Windows) or Option + Click (on Mac).

For details, refer Previewing output (Adobe Acrobat Pro).

Please try it out and let us know your feedback.

Regards,

Priyanka Jain

You should be able to use the Command or Control key to select multiple items when you are in edit mode, regardless of wether output preview is up or not.

I appreciate the reply Karl,

When I push down the control key the cursor changes to a move tool that can't select objects. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Damon Daniels

Karl is correct that you can select multiple objects in Acrobat using the control key when using the edit PDF feature, but it will not work when using PitStop Pro Inspector plugin to edit art.

I was hoping to be able to change the shortcut in Acrobat like you can in Indesign or just disable comments in Acrobat completely, but best as I can tell that is not the case.

You can disable comments, but you still can't shift click multiple objects. Find the Annots.api in your Acrobat folder on your hard drive and move it. Less anoying, but still not what would be ideal.
