Some fonts won't show up on a customers supplied pdf file. They disappear. Have anyone else seen this?

Customer supplied a pdf. When I bring it into InDesign or rip it through Kodak Prinergy, they don't show up. I'm using Acrobat 7.0 Professional, with PitStop.

I can't touch the type with the Pitstop Inspector, but if I use the item selector, it will select it like an image. The only way I could get it to show up was to create a .ps file from it, then ripped it through Prinergy. That's when I got a message telling me the font was called "N513". Has Anyone else come across this problem?

You can create a PDF with fonts that are not embedded (that do not have the right to be embedded). To view or RIP these you must have the same font on the computer you are working on and/or uploaded to the RIP. The namne of the font may be generic, or temporary and does not help. If you look in acrobat and use ctrl-D (cmd-D on mac) you can see the document settings. If you go to the tab fonts are there fonts used that are not embedded?

Thank you. The font was not embedded in the file. I'm still surprised that Pringery would let it rip right on through and I got no warnings.
