Trust always not working for protected view

I am working with Adobe Acrobat 2017. I have Protected View enabled for untrusted sources. I have PDF documents that are being displayed from Microsoft Outlook via an Outlook plugin that are always displayed in Protected View. For some reason, I cannot make an exception for these documents. If I select the option to trust host always, then the document I am looking at will be enabled. But Subsequent documents from the same source will again display in Protected View. Also, a new entry to the trusted host list does not get added after I trust always. Does anyone know how I can go about troubleshooting this? Thanks

The only UI I see in the yellow message bar is a button that says "Enable All Features". My version is not the same as yours, but I assume we should be seeing the same thing. This is Acrobat and not Reader?

Also, the right way to trust Outlook attachments for PV is to set the reg key described here: Trust Manager

The only time you will see the "trust this host always" option in Protected View is when a document is opened from a web server. These are not Outlook attachments. These are documents retrieved from our Document archive solution. Our Document archive product has a local web server hosting a platform from which users can search and retrieve documents. The product also comes with an Outlook plugin. The plugin creates a new tab in Outlook from which you can launch a GUI where you can search and retrieve documents. Documents opened from this GUI have the yellow bar. The option to trust host always is there. Selecting it will enable the document you are on, but all subsequent documents still have the bar. If I add our document archiving web server manually as a trusted host, it does not work. The behavior is exactly the same.

Have you tried a workflow that does not use Outlook or any plugin? For example, a local file with a link to the server hosted file or cutting and pasting a link in a browser? Also, configure a trusted host via the UI and post a screenshot.

When I open a PDF the "Enable All Features" button shows at the top.  I want to permanently enable.  I cannot find the setting.  Where is it?

There are two main approaches:

  • Trust each doc when they open (and you can make that persistent).
  • Trust all docs all the time (this is the same as: "Open every doc without caring whether or not it's a malicious file containing viruses or malware").

You can go to Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and change the Protected View setting. Disabling is not recommended.
