Unable to disable Adobe’s Global Object Security Policy

I am trying to access a PDF file from school, but I keep getting these instructions:

Adobe Reader > Preferences > JavaScript > uncheck the "Enable global object security policy" field

 

However, idk where the preferences section is and I can't access the chance through JavaScript. Can someone please help me?
