Hi!
I create fillable Reader Enabled pdfs. Up until this past update from Adobe there was a method to save a copy of the Reader Enabled pdf as a NOT Reader Enabled pdf. That function seems to have disappeared with this latest update.
There is a pop-up window in Adobe Acrobat that pops up, when using a Reader Enabled pdf and trying to make any change other than filling it in, that says:
"This document restricts some Adobe Acrobat features to allow for extended features in Adobe Acrobat Reader. To create a copy of the document that is not restricted (and has no extended features in Adobe Acrobat Reader), choose File > Save a Copy."
When I would do that, "File > Save A Copy", the copy would be fully-editable.
This pop-up message still appears now but with the update it seems like the "File > Save A Copy" option is gone, or moved and I can't find it.
Can someone please help me to accomplish the above?
Thank you SO MUCH!!
Diane

"And, I thought I read that when the PDF has calculations, validations, special functions, etc. in it that the "reader enabled" is still needed. Is that accurate?"
No, that's not true.
Enabling for Reader was only used to save the PDF, it's completely independent of the functions used by the form.

Similar issue. I went back to the old UI. Found File-->Save a copy. But it still says I can't edit the PDF. How can I save a copy so that I can edit it freely??????

Save a Copy just remove Reader's extended rights.
This does not change any protections on the document or the fact that it may be an image.

The help popup seems to imply otherwise. Thank you.

I open a file. Select Edit, and the the popup displays. The popup help is either incorrect or something else is wrong.
The new UI doesn't have Save a Copy. When I reverted to the old UI, I can see Save a Copy but it doesn't unlock or remove restrictions. Not sure what the popup is referencing. I save a copy and the message shows up again. Therefore, the instructions in the popup are wrong.

The instructions are correct. Have you opened the file copy?

Yes. It's still locked.

Bernd's instrictions do the trick, very good. Thank you so much!

"The popup help is either incorrect or something else is wrong."
This popup says exactly what I told you above.
Also, you must be sure that this document is not an PDF-XFA made with Designer.
Can you share (part of) this document?

Where did you find a help popup related to Save a Copy?
I never saw it.

First, let me say that I haven't carefully sorted through this whole long thread, so if someone else has said this, I apologize. But I've been having the same problem with fillable forms. I finally found where "Save As" hides -- if you click on the Menu button in the upper lefthand corner of your screen, you will get a list that includes "Save As". FYI, it also includes "Recent Files", in case you have accidentally deleted a file you wanted to keep (like I did while trying to save it!).

I have an Updated. I was facing same issue and referring to this Forum to try to make it work.
***** When you're done adding your Information, DO NOT USE the Add Sign from Adobe feature.
What i did instead was, Save whatever information you're done adding, close the adobe app.
Open with Microsoft Edge.
You can add a textbox or a picture whatever needed for your Signature.
Click SaveAs.
And this way you can still edit the rest of the fields and not loose the feature.

Just figure out how to remove the restriction on the PDF file.. Print -> Microsoft Print to PDF.. Then you can edit the file..
Thanks me later..
