What's the point of page labels now?

New Here ,
Jun 28, 2023 Jun 28, 2023

I used to use page labels for noninitial volumes of documents, since I'd have page labels start from where the previous volume left off. That was handy because the reader would see that displayed in Acrobat and could enter a page label to go to that page.

Now, when I set page labels, they don't display anywhere except when one views all of the page thumbnails. In the terrible new Acrobat interface, only the PDF page number is displayed on the right of the window, but the page label is not displayed anywhere. A reader can enter the page label in the the page number field and it works, but there's no way readers would know that, since that field only shows PDF page numbers.

Since they no longer display anywhere other than the page thumbnail view, what is the point of page labels now? I feel like I'm missing some way to make them useful like they used to be.

Hi @jiporter,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

When you open a file on Acrobat, go to the right panel and click on the double-page icon to open the page thumbnails. Once there, right-click on any of the page you want to label and click on the "Page Label" option from the dropdown (screenshot attached).

Hope this helps.

How do you set new page labels (renumber pages) in the new Acrobat? Not finding that command. I use this all the time too to help me reference pages of articles that do not start with "1"

Thanks.,  I now realize this can be added to the toolbar on the left as an immediate option.
