I have just updated to Acrobat Pro CC 2009.008.20071 and now when I bring up a list of comments on a PDF design file there is no longer a check box to tick off changes as I go. I used to filter by unchecked comments to keep track of what fixes had been actioned. The check box is no longer there.
There are more approval options (completed/apprvoed/add check box etc) in the hamburger dropdown but that is surely not the process for checking off each edit?!
I have identified a temporary (but less good) workaround - (shift + k) which ticks the corner of the box but it doesn't then take you to the next comment as occurred previously, meaning that you need to click on the next one. This actually slows down workflow significantly in a graphic design setting where changes are actioned at speed and timed/. I have read in other forums that some designers used to press the space bar to tick and move to the next change to be even faster. @

I want checkboxes back...
And the "New" size of comments also make me crazy...

Everyone on this thread; please vote for this official request to Adobe here: Bring back checkboxes by default. Seriously. – Share your feedback on Acrobat DC

HATE the new comments redesign.
To the poster who asked
"Do the people who decide on these changes actually use your products?"
No, doesn't appear so. At least they don't use comments in a publishing or normal office-document environment where we go through round after round of passing around PDFs for comments and review.

I have never, ever, commented in an online forum before, but I completely concur! Please bring back checkboxes. It is extremely important to my workflow.

+1 to bring the check mark back - our whole office uses this to manage revisions and has messed up our workflow

I was initially miffed by the hiding of ticks but after trying & familiarizing, it actually aids being able to look down a large range of comments to see which ones are checked & which comments you are yet to attend to. Once clicked, they show up better + I didn't notice too much of a difference in time with a right-click+click, maybe adds 5% more time to my workflow... no biggie for me, I'm actually liking it.

To see which ones are checked, there was (and actualy is) a filter to view only unchecked comments...

+1 for bringing back the checkbox. The filter is not working for me anymore either, it just sorts the list by "checked" and "unchecked" and does not update dynamically when new comments are checked. This is a bummer as I often have to go through literally hundreds of comments in one document.

This is already a HUGE inconvenience for our in-house design group. I just received a marked-up pdf with over 100 edits—and this happens to be a rush job too!! Having to go into a drop-down menu to check off every single one of those edits is really tedious and literally making this job more difficult.
Please, please, please bring back the standard checkboxes.

Agreed. Adobe decided to update acrobat even with cloud turned off, woke up to very unpleasent surprise and experience this morning. I use check boxes for all my proof checking, there can be 100 pages of edits for medical projects. Now I have to go through more steps, Please stop changing everything just to do it.

Well, hiding the check box in a drop down menu (and at the bottom) certainly adds a bunch of time and clicks to production.
Making us do more "clicks" for added carpel tunnel and reducing our productivity time doesn't strike me as 'modernizing'.
Hoping Adobe fix this soon. Grrrr.

Who's idea was this ffs?
I know we have to pay monthly now - but that doesn't mean you have to come up with changes just for the sake of it.

There is nothing intuitive about this. It's reverting back at least 10 years.
What you call a "Modernized" design is a throw back to a less efficient version and a failure.
Taking away the compete check box.
Not being able to close the tool menu when the comment menu is open.
The comment menu cannot be narrowed and a lot of screen space is lost.
The forced upgrade with no warning and no option to revert to a previous version is unappreciated.
I don't always have time to stop my work flow and figure out changes and upgrades.
My version updated in the middle without warning, while Acrobat was open.
I noticed the Acrobat Icon changed on my desktop files. The next time I restarted I have a new version.
Please stop forcing things on users.

Here's the links to the previous version of Acrobat. Works just fine, better in fact (doesn't crash like the new version), and the check boxes are still there!!

what a nightmare. Acrobat is now useless for tracking edits (which is the sole reason a great number of us use it).
I've now wasted a great deal of time trying to work around the update, but continue to lose time and productivity due to a thoughtless change by Adobe. This was a big mistake that needs to be fixed.
I even tried reverting back to the previous version by using time machine, but now Acrobat crashes every few minutes and DOESNT SAVE my checked changes.
Pulling my hair out. Where did everyone go from Adobe to provide answers and let us know when they'll undo this colossal screw-up.

Hey, Sachin: I think the votes are in. When are we going to see the update with the checkbox restored? Thank you!

I've noticed the same thing. So now i have to make 4 actions to approve a comment? Instead of just one click as it was in the old version. With a large page document with a lot of comments to check it is a very intuitive way to grow rsi.
It's Mondaymorning and already annoyed

Losing the checkbox is counter-intuitive, it does not speed up productivity, it has increased the time it takes when you work with this day in and day out. Did you guys not do your research before you rolled out this update?
Bring back the checkbox!!!!

a little off topic. unless i'm mistaken, it looks like the percentage magnification indication that used to be part of the UI is also missing in the latest update. I just started reviewing a batch of large-format pdf proofs from a fabricator and I used to be able to see the numerical percentage zoom in the UI frame so I can see how the images look at actual size, 150% and 200%. That's gone in this latest update and another blow to our productivity. Adobe please return to the previous version, or at least do NOT remove useful features from updated versions and then depend upon your paying customers to act as beta testers at a cost of their time and money.

Please bring the checkbox back. I don't see how "modern" this is to support a set-back like that. Looks like Adobe isn't using its own softwares, any Acrobat user would know this was a VERY, VERY useful feature when reading comments and editing the master document. I use to go through all comments for a work-in-progress document and sometimes I keep some edits for the end, and can come back to it/them later simply by sorting the comments by the unchecked ones. Checking those boxes is mainly the only interaction I had to do and it was quick to do when the box was always visible. Now that it isn't, I'm going to have to charge back that extra time to whom? Adobe or the client? Who caused the time loss? Adobe, again.
Adobe, you know you could use a way to consult users before doing such changes, right?

Clean and intuitive to use? Jesus really?!?!?!? Please bring the checkbox back and don't fix what isn't broken. Instead of focusing on making Acrobat a fast and stable application, which it certainly isn't, you're destroying basic functionality that is simple, intuitive and easy to use as is.

Honestly, what on earth are you thinking Adobe, removing check boxes? I'd love to know who thought that was a UI improvement. What a stupid change this is.
The new filter is far worse than the old version too. Why have these changes been made when it worked perfectly before?

Agree with daveyheats this is such a counter-intuitive change. Please, please, PLEASE bring back the checkboxes and ability to filter comments by those that have been checked or are unchecked!
