Since upgrading to Acrobat 9, I am unable to print pdfs with my Canon ip5000. I have reinstalled my printer and installed the latest driver from Canon. This hasn't helped. I can print pdfs using Acrobat 8.

One last thing to try:

Look for any .plist files associated with Acrobat In main Library > Preference Directory or User >Library Preference Directory remove these files, to trash.

Open Acrobat and see what happens.

Also, while You have set to print, you should see the printer icon in the Dock. double click on it to open it. look and see if the Printer shows

like: http://screencast.com/t/Mzg0ZGFlYWMt

click on Start Print so that that you see this:

before you do if you see any print jobs listed in cue list click on each  to highlight and delete each.

If this doesn't help I am out ideas.

No, it is something with how Acrobat is translating Postscript, because I just went into the advanced Printer settings, and if I change the setting to print as picture, then it prints, but then I have change that setting every time.

Sound like either a Bug that need to be reported to : https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

or you need an up dated print Driver. from your Printer Manufacturer.

In past Adobe had a bug that affected certain printers that showed fine diagonal line instead of the document when printed.

to work around you had to print as image.

This may be a manifestation of that old bug with a different result.

If you download and install  new print Driver or even the same fro Manufacturer do as follows:

  1. download new print Driver (or new copy) fro Manufacture's website.
  2. go to printer Utility or printer Fax Control panel (System Preferences).
  3. remove printer from list.
  4. install new prin driver
  5. go back to Printer Utility (Printer /fax Control panel) click on add printer  (make sure printer is on and attached through USB).
  6. when shows up list click on it and make default Printer.

Now try print document. If this doesn't solve problem Then definitely a Bug in Acrobat.

one other thing you might try is Adobe Reader down load and install.

If it prints fine then you have some type of corruption in Acrobat or prehaps ina Preference or .plest file.

If it doen't print it may be your Print Driver.

And yes you could have a Print Driver problem even though it shows up in one application.

Your one last suggestion, removing the plist items relating to acrobat in the main library ...WORKED! I'm thrilled! I'm not quite sure what plist items are, but I'm pleased to be rid of them if they were the problem. I can now print pdfs once more on my desktop printer. Thank you so much for your generous support. I am very grateful. I hope it helps others in the same predicament.

Glad it helped. It part of OSX's UNIX underpinnings. it short for Property List. Unix uses a List of Properties-guides if you will-of what is supposed to handle what or what action is supposed to happen. They can become corrupt and whenn removed will usually be rebuilt.
