Why is sign in required?

Adobe keeps overstepping with their apps.  First they forced people to use subscription-only services for most, meaning I spend hundreds of dollars more each year than I should have to.  Now I can't even open a PDF in Acrobat without signing in to my account?  I purchased this app separately, paid in full, and now the ever-prying eyes of Adobe demand to look over my shoulder when I open sensitive documents???  This needs to stop now.

This is mostly a user-to-user forum to help others with problems.

Are you using a "year" version (2017, 2019, etc.) or the DC version?

(I only have to sign in once and forget about it--unless I uninstall and reinstall.)

I have Acrobat 2020, purchased through Amazon.  I used the "Redemption Code" from Amazon to download the software...twice.  Now it always wants me to sign in AND enter my serial number...which I don't have handy.  This just shouldn't be happening.

Additionally, I have Creative Cloud apps that used to function just fine after I downloaded them and then signed out.  I can't do that anymore either; I have to be signed in to use the app, something I strongly object to.
